Save the Trees- Campaigns Around the World

Saving the trees could very well be the thing that saves the plant from the problems to come. There are many reasons why trees are so essential to our lives and why they need to be considered an endangered species. Trees are being cut down at an alarming rate, and most are not being replenished.

What Do Trees Do For The Environment?

Trees most important job is to clean the air we breathe. The foliage of the tree filters the air to make it clean and healthy. It removes small particles floating in the air that could get into our lungs and cause respiratory problems. Trees take in the carbon dioxide we breathe out and replace it with clean oxygen for us to breathe in. The more trees an area has, the lower the level of smog. Trees help to improve the quality of water in an area. They provide a filtering system to rivers and streams and also prevent some flooding by the roots and tree coverage over an area. Trees are known for providing a natural energy saving option. They provide cool air as water evaporates off foliage, and they provide shade. Residential homes with trees use less electricity each month.

How Do Trees Help The Community?

Planting trees in a neighborhood increases home values. Neighborhoods with shade and landscaping tend to bring higher sales on real estate values than those without. Buyers prefer a better looking neighborhood when considering the home.

Trees also provide a better atmosphere for shoppers. Business areas that incorporate trees into their landscape will show a higher profit than those that have none. It gives people a sense of being comfortable, and they tend to shop more.

Trees in neighborhoods and communities are starting to show results of reducing the amount of inner city violence. Nature calms and soothes individuals making them less aggressive and violent in their behavior. Trees also reduce noise and pollution.

Why Save A Tree?

Listed below are some of the reasons individuals should strive to save trees in their area and around the world.

With only four trees around a home, the electric bill will be lowered by one-third. By saving a million trees, we are reducing the amount of energy used by $10 million dollars. It takes forty trees to remove eighty pounds of pollution in the air each year. With four million trees saved, the amount it costs to clean the air will be reduced by $20 million dollars. It takes 400 trees to capture 140,000 gallons of rainwater each year. It takes 4,000,000 trees to reduce the amount of yearly rainwater runoff costs by $14,000,000. Over fifty year’s time, one tree can create $31,000 of oxygen, give $62,000 in pollution control of the air, and recycle $37,000 worth of rainwater.

What Are Other Countries Doing To Save Trees?

Many countries around the world are noticing the problems with the environment and are making pledges to plant millions of trees. In some countries the amount of planted trees has reached the billion mark.

In countries with rainforests, preservation efforts are underway to stop the destruction of the delicate ecosystems. By taking these measures, the rainforest is being protected and is able to continue producing food for the world, rich soil for continued growth, and help stop natural disasters like floods from occurring.

What Are Organizations Doing To Help With Tree Preservation?

There are many organizations working to fight the destruction of trees and urban forests around the world.

American Forests is the oldest American nonprofit conservation group made up by citizens. It was started in 1875. They are the major contributors in the effort that brought about the National Forest systems and National Parks in America. ForestEthics works to protect the endangered forests by changing the way paper and wood industries in America are run. They also help with community based conservation efforts. The Forest Stewardship Council in Mexico was started in 1993 and supports eco-friendly forest management efforts. Forest Trees and People are based in Sweden and works to spread information to individuals and communities about working together to save the forests. Greenpeace International is working with countries such as Russia, Africa, the Pacific, the Amazon, and both Americas to preserve the ancient forest systems in their countries. Costa-Rica is working with the International Analog Forestry Network to help communities use trees in a sustainable way as they manage the amount that is cut down. The International Forestry Students Association is working to teach students to think on a larger scale and to use their extracurricular time to help preservation efforts. Canada founded the International Network of Forest and Communities and is working to promote community efforts to promote healthy forests. The National Arbor Day Foundation is working to promote the proper care of trees and to teach individuals about trees. The World Rainforest movement is a Uruguay-based group working with the north and south hemispheres to protect the rainforests of the world.

What Needs To Be Done?

Efforts to save trees need to be made by every individual to protect the environment. Individuals can start groups in their own communities that work to plant trees around the area. There are many organizations that take donations to aid in their fight for the rainforests and for tree preservation efforts around the world.

The simplest action that people can take is to plant a few trees in their own yards. It will help to reduce their electricity and also to provide shade during the summer. It will make the value of your home increase. Most importantly, it will help to add the right natural environment for clean air and clean water.
